How the check works

  1. Your 2026/27 bill. Income Tax and Class 4 National Insurance (6% from £12,570 to £50,270, 2% above) on your profit, using the site's calculator.
  2. Payments on account. Half of last year's bill on 31 January and 31 July, unless the bill was under £1,000 or more than 80% was paid through PAYE.
  3. Every date. The balancing payment and the next year's first payment on account fall on the same 31 January, which is why the first year jumps to 150%.
